ESC swab – Neutralizing Rinse Solution 10 ml (LIO-85601)
Description
ESC (Easy Surface Checking) swab – Neutralizing Rinse Solution is a device used for the microbiological monitoring of surfaces by swab sampling method. Neutralizing agents included in the medium allow to assess the effectiveness of sanitization procedures in areas where residual disinfectants are presumably present.
Contents of the Packages
The product consists of a transparent plastic tube containing transport
medium and a sterile swab inserted in the cap (Fig 1).
Each package contains:
• 100 tubes with swab and liquid medium;
• 1 instructions sheet.
Method Principle
This solution contains the following neutralizers: histidine, lecithin, polysorbate 80 (Tween) and sodium thiosulphate. L-histidine inactivates aldehydes, lecithin neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds, polysorbate 80 is effective against phenolic compounds and mercurial derivates and sodium thiosulfate neutralizes halogen compounds.
Formula (per liter of solution)TEST PROCEDURE
Casein peptone 1 g, histidine 1 g , lecithin 3 g, Tween 80 30 g,
sodium thiosulphate 5 g, sodium chloride 8.5 g, pH 7.0±0.2 (25°C).
Test Procedure
1. Take a tube from the package and unscrew the cap with the swab.
2. Press the tip of the swab against the wall of the tube to remove excess liquid.
3. Streak the swab on a surface horizontally and vertically. A Sampling Template 10×10 (ref. 96762) can be used to delimit and sample an area of 100 cm2 (Fig 2).
4. Put the swab into the tube with the medium.
5. Screw the cap and record date and the sampling point.
6. Transport the device to the laboratory and examine according to methods in use.
Storage
10-25°C away from light, until the expiry date on the label. Eliminate if signs of deterioration or contamination are evident.
